Course Description

Polymerization and its associated shrinkage threatens the success of all kinds of adhesive restorations. My research methodology based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) presents a systematic approach for simulation of clinical situation in laboratory research. By real-time imaging using OCT imaging and analytical methodologies, we visually evaluate and monitor gap formation at the interface of composite and the effects of clinical factors.

In this presentation we present our research findings on the newly developed Laser curing light in comparison to the most popular LED light curing units for polymerization of a variety of composites in deep preparations.

Dr. Alireza Sadr

Dr. Sadr completed his advanced training in operative dentistry and Ph.D. in Dental Science at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) in Japan in 2008. He directed a Global Center of Excellence program in dental research at TMDU prior to joining UW in 2015. His research focus is advanced materials and technologies for adhesive and minimally invasive dentistry, which has led to the publication of over 200 manuscripts and funded multiple research projects. He's currently directing operative dentistry education at UW, while continuing as a research mentor at the B4T research lab, and practicing dentistry. Dr. Sadr has developed a unique methodology for the evaluation of composite shrinkage and gap formation using OCT technology.
